Being Human in STEM is a student-driven initiative; it began with conversations following the Amherst Uprising, which encouraged us to start a special topics course to discuss and research these issues. (Read more about the inspiration here.) HSTEM course, offered as special topics course until Fall 2017 and a registered course starting in Spring 2018, has kept the HSTEM initiative to be a student-driven initiative. The course is project-based, with students and instructors collaborating to investigate issues surrounding diversity and inclusivity in STEM both here at Amherst and beyond.
In this section, we present semester-by-semester project descriptions and outcomes from the courses offered here at Amherst.
