Olivia Truax

Hello! My name is Olivia Truax and I am a senior from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Here at Amherst, I've double majored in Geology and Law, Jurisprudence, and Social Thought (an interesting combination, I know). My interest in issues of inclusivity in the sciences began during my high school experience at the North Carolina School of Science and Math (NCSSM) a two year, public residential high school for students interested in STEM. Like, Amherst, NCSSM is both strengthened and challenged by its commitment to bringing together and creating opportunity for students from varying backgrounds to construct a vibrant and diverse learning community. This semester, I am excited to explore the experience of historically underrepresented populations within STEM through the interview/story-telling project.

My Projects

I have been heavily involved in our "interview" project this semester, talking to a variety of students, faculty, and staff about their experiences working and living within STEM communities within and beyond Amherst. In addition, I have also contributed research to the "STEM Lit Search" listed under the Resources tab of this website.
