Gaby MayerHi! My name is Gaby Mayer and I am a senior Art History major at Amherst. I come to the Pioneer Valley by way of my hometown, New York City. However, my family is originally from Colombia (fun fact: my first language is Spanish!). I became interested in STEM--and the attendant issues of representation, inclusion, and community--early on in my college career. As someone whose interests split evenly between the sciences and the humanities, I quickly observed some important affective differences between my art history and pre-medical courses. I hope to bring the conversations we have to my future career in healthcare. I'm grateful to the Amherst College Department of Chemistry and to Dr. Jaswal (our intrepid advisor) for the continued support of this ambitious course!

My Projects |
This semester, I'll be one of the students helming the development of this course website. In addition, I am the project leader for the "STEM Lit Search," which strives to assemble a curated list of academic, peer-reviewed articles highlighting the ways in which the different aspects of our identity can impact our experiences within STEM. Along with my fellow classmates, I'll be assisting with our interview/story-telling project (click the "Humans of STEM" tab above to learn more).
I also wrote a blogpost reflecting upon the experience of being a female science student at Amherst College. |
