From its inspiration in the Amherst Uprising and the first course in Spring 2016, HSTEM has produced many resources and has grown tremendously. However, there was a challenge in recording such growth and documenting what resources it has produced. We sought to resolve this challenge by producing three main products:
Documentary to introduce HSTEM, with voices of the HSTEM pioneers
Timeline to document the progress of HSTEM since its initiation
Timeline in a Document Format that describes the items in the timeline in more detail (attached below).
More about the documentary: From the beginning, we wanted to give the faculty, staff and students who have been involved with the Initiative from the Spring of 2016, an opportunity to express their motivations and their accomplishments thus far. We thought a documentary film would be the best way to achieve this goal. To that end, over the course of the semester, we’ve interviewed around 30 faculty, staff, and students, who’ve shared with us their involvement with the HSTEM Initiative, including the challenges they’ve seen and their hopes for the future of HSTEM. These beautiful testimonies have moved us time and time again, with each one reminding us of why we’ve also chosen to join the initiative ourselves. We would like to share with you a short documentary, along with a Timeline of HSTEM in the past years and our hopes for the Initiative in the years to come.
