Emma RyanHi! My name is Emma Ryan, and I’m a senior Law, Jurisprudence, and Social Thought major from Boise, Idaho. As both a pre-medical and humanities student, I'm interested in how communities interact with science and medicine - specifically, how policy affects the affordability and accessibility of healthcare. I became especially interested in the experience of underrepresented students in STEM after listening to the stories of my peers during Amherst Uprising, and hope to be a part of creating meaningful change here. Outside of class and the library, I row crew, volunteer as an ESL tutor, and consume a lot of coffee in order to do the things I just listed.

My Projects |
This semester, I'm working with Ruth to create a series of modules that will offer concrete tools for STEM professors interested in creating a more inclusive classroom.
Last semester, I worked on the Testimony Project, helping to consolidate student, faculty and staff interviews and identifying overarching themes and patterns within their stories. I also wrote a blogpost about the work of psychologist Dr. Nilinjana Dasgupta, whose research centers around the way in which gender composition in STEM peer groups can affect women's academic performance. |
