Expanding/Deepening HSTEM Interventions at Amherst College Developing Workshops to foster conversation about & assess the state of inclusion in STEM at Amherst College and beyond.
Starting from the workshop project in Spring of 2016, HSTEM initiative has sought to create a workshop that can be easily implemented to discuss and assess diversity and inclusion in STEM at any institution. In November 2016, HSTEM facilitators piloted a workshop in CHEM-161, one of the introductory chemistry courses at Amherst, to assess the main challenges facing underrepresented students in STEM at Amherst College.
We have summarized the workshop, including its goal, methods, and results, in the poster below. From this structure and the feedback of the students from this workshop, we propose a new workshop model. We hope to facilitate this workshop in the coming semester.
